Open Source Developer Stack [DISCONTINUED]
What is Open Source Developer Stack?
OSDS is a collection of open source Java frameworks that let developers quickly build sophisticated enterprise applications. For many years, developers have utilized the high-powered computing made possible by J2EE, but have compaliened about the hoops they needed to jump through to get "serious" applications working and deployed.
Open Source To The Rescue
As a result of the compexity of the early J2EE development and deployment procedures many application frameworks have emerged from the Open Source world, where developers in the community took it upon themselves to fix various problems inherent in the J2EE approach. Because they provide substantial improvements and are readily available, many of these new frameworks have taken off in popularity.
Our Open Source Developer Stack is collection of the most popular frameworks that we have found to be the most practical and least cumbersome to develop with.
OSDS version 1.0
The stack is split into two branches. They are the WebWork branch and the Struts brach. The reason for this is simple. The two branches correspond to the two web frameworks that we have used in the past and were successful on a number of projects with. The rest of the stack follows the same guidelines.
OSDS v1.0 (WebWork) |
OSDS v1.0 (Struts) |
|
|
| Since WebWork is going to become Struts Action Framework 2.0 we have discontinued the development of this product. | We are no longer developing this branch of the product. Download the last release! |
Both branches of the OSDS stack come as single zipped file with the directory structure already setup to begin the development of web J2EE applications. Think of this stack as a blank-project-structure file that you unzip and have all of the required libraries ready to go.
